                                  BIOGRAPHY                                              

Dramatic mezzo-soprano Ann Plagianos has made her European debut to critical acclaim in the title role of Massenet's opera "Herodiade" with Juan Pons at the Teatro Dell" Opera in Rome, Italy. A semi-finalist in the New York region of the Metropolitan Opera Competition, she has toured with New York City Opera in their production of "Carmen".

Captivating audiences throughout the States and Europe with  her dramatic  stage presence, "rich, velvety tone", "rich, dark lower voice", "wonderful  legato and a top that shimmered",  Ms. Plagianos' roles include Laura in "La Gioconda" (Arizona Opera), Santuzza in "Cavalleria Rusticana" (Nassau Pops), Amneris in "Aida" and Principessa De Bouillon" (Riverside Opera), Eboli  in "Don Carlo"(Opera Las Vegas), Azucena in "Il Trovatore" and Adalgisa "Norma" (Opera NY), Ortrud in "Lohengrin" (Liederkranz Foundation), the Abbess in "Suor Angelica" (Empire Opera), Flora in "La Traviata" and Frugola in "Il Tabarro" (Opera Tampa),  Isabella in "L'Italiana in Algieri" (Scovasso Opera), Maddalena in "Rigoletto" (NY Grand Opera), Suzuki in "Madama Butterfly" and  Prince Orlofsky in "Die Fledermaus"(Regina Opera), Lola in "Cavalleria Rusticana" (Opera in the Hamptons), Berta in "The Barber of Seville" (Opera Theater of Lakeland) Third Witch "Macbeth" (Connecticut Grand Opera) and Mrs. McLean in "Susannah" (The Bronx Opera).

Equally at home in both oratorio and recitals, Ms. Plagianos has performed the Verdi Requiem, Beethoven's Ninth Symphony and Mass in C, Handel's  Messiah, Mozart's Requiem, Haydn's Lord Nelson Mass and St. Cecilia's Mass, Bach's Magnificat and Christmas Oratorio, Pergolesi's Miserere, and P.D.Q. Bach's "The Seasonings" with Professor Schickele. A soloist in a tribute to Maestro Nello Santi which was televised throughout Europe on RAI television, the dramatic mezzo has made her successful debut at Avery Fisher Hall with Met Opera baritone Theodore Lambrinos in a program entitled "A Musical Salute to the Hellenic Spirit". She has appeared with Maestro Anton Coppola in the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center's production of "La Traviata". Ms. Plagianos performed with Met Opera baritone Dimitri Kavrakos in a holiday concert, and has debuted with Connecticut Grand Opera in "Macbeth" with Maestro Laurence Gilgore.  She has recently appeared with Opera on the Hudson in a concert entitled  "A Spring Festival of Opera".
